The Department of Health – Abu Dhabi (DoH) has issued a circular to medical treatment service providers and health insurance companies licensed by the Department of Health to work in the health field, in response to Cabinet Resolution No. (6/8/W) of 2019 granting citizens of crisis-affected countries and war zones an extendable one-year permit.

According to the Resolution, starting of March 23, 2022, citizens of Ukraine in the UAE who possess tourist and visit visas, as well as other categories of expired visas, will be granted one-year residence visas in “crisis-stricken nations and war zones.”

In order to complete the procedures for obtaining a residence visa, the aforementioned categories are also entitled to undertake medical tests regardless of the state of their entry permission in the country.

They will also be able to continue to use the health insurance for emergency situations at a discounted rate for another six months. And, if their status does not improve during this time, their health insurance will be extended for another six months, until the residence renewal formalities are completed.

According to the rules of Law No. 23 of 2005 on health insurance in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, no financial penalty will be collected owing to the expiration of the health insurance card.
